"Self Doodle"
This website is dedicated to Sara Baker and her recovery.
Sara was critically injured in a car accident on October
24th, 2007. Hours later she suffered a debilitating stroke
that normally kills 95% of victims. After being airlifted to
UC-Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, surgeons were able to
remove the clot responsible for the stroke, but not reverse the
damage already caused. She was diagnosed the following day
as having Locked-In Syndrome.
Locked-In Syndrome is a rare
neurological state where a person is fully conscious and aware
of their surroundings, with all memories and cognition intact,
but without the ability to control all voluntary muscles except
those for the eyes. Sara is only able to communicate via those
eye movements.
This is her journey.
